When that sun comes out in Portland it lights up the surrounding forests and little hidden gardens throughout the city and makes them sparkle. I love when the light bounces off of every surface and creates a warm glow everywhere you look. And this is the very scenario I found myself in at Toni and Jake’s wedding at the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden in SE Portland. Vows were exchanged under the cloudless skies and the canopy of the gardens shielded us from the hot rays.
After we got our nature fix we headed downtown to The Cleaners at the Ace Hotel where a beautiful set up was waiting for Toni and Jake. The minimalism of this space was the perfect contrast to the lush gardens. There was beer on tap and food provided from Clyde Common next door. I had the sweet pea agnolotti and it blew my mind.
Before toasts Toni’s Dad played a song that made everyone in the room cry. I love when the family musician plays something special. Live music at any reception seems to bring everyone together.
When it was time for a sparkler exit we all kind of looked at each other wondering if it was illegal to light fireworks in the streets. A few shrugs later we lit a hundred tiny fires and sent the newlyweds off into the night.
Congrats guys!
