Family photoshoot locations in McCall
There are so many wonderful options for the perfect family photoshoot location in the McCall area. We are lucky to be surrounded by an abundance of forests, meadows, and rolling hills. I’ve managed to narrow it down to a list of my top 5 locations in Valley County.
What makes a great Mccall family photoshoot location?
Accessability
I look for ease of access. I make sure it’s easy to park to and start our session without any hiking or hoping fences. No one wants to get sweaty before they have their picture taken.
Safety
The location must be kid friendly. By that I mean there are no dangers (i.e. right next to a giant cliff! ) I want kids to be free to run around without parents stressing about saftey. A safe environments means that everyone is relaxed and happy.
Privacy
The location we choose should have a bit of privacy. Not only does a private area lend itself to better photos overall, but it’s also more relaxing when we don’t have to worry about passersby waiting for us to take a photo before going through the background or foreground of the shot. If you’re set on a popular location, this can typically be solved by going before or after peak visiting hours.

Ponderosa State Park
One of my favorite locations for obvious reasons! Ponderosa is gorgeous all year-round. Blooming flowers and greenery all spring and summer and beautiful changing aspens in the fall. There are several locations within the park that make for amazing family photo backdrops. It’s also easy to access and just 5 minutes from downtown McCall.

Tamarack Resort
Another location that is beautiful year-round. There are plenty of areas to take photos at Tamarack, but I love going up the lift and getting awesome views of the valley from the top of the mountain in the summer and fall.

Brundage Mountain
Located just outside of McCall, Brundage is a great place for family photos that is beautiful and easy to get to from town.

Jug Mountain
The rolling meadows surrounding Jug Mountain Ranch are an ideal setting for sunset family sessions. In the summer and fall the tall grasses and mountain backdrop can’t be beat!

This peaceful path along the Payette River is an awesome place to visit for a sunset family session. It’s very accessible and the river/mountain views are stunning.
