Hoyt Arboretum & The Redwood Deck

Hoyt Arboretum is a 189 Acre park just 5 minutes from downtown Portland. Although it is close to the city, it feels like a million miles away! The forested paths are a very convenient oasis of calm and absolutely beautiful to explore with your family. It’s open year-round and each season brings its’ own special scenery. I love taking families down to the Redwood deck (just a few minutes walk from the visitors center) to admire the giant trees! The light here is very atmospheric and It’s a wonderful spot for family portraits.

When to schedule your family session at Hoyt Arboretum

Hoyt Arboretum is a beautiful location for family photos all year-round! The size of the park allows for plenty of privacy even on the busiest of afternoons. There are miles of forested paths to explore. It’s especially great for kids who are full of energy. There is so much to see and if we are lucky we will spot some wildlife life deer and even bunnies!

Spring at Hoyt Arboretum

In the spring the park is full of wildflowers and blooming trees. The flowers peak around mid-late May – Making it perfect for Mother’s day or a spring maternity session.

Summer

In the summer, Hoy Arboretum is a refuge from the sun! It’s extensive canopy of trees offers a lot of shade and cooler temperatures! The forest is also very lush and green throughout the summer months.

Autumn

There is no better setting than Hoyt Arboretum when the leaves begin to change! It’s truly beautiful walking along the paths and witnessing the vibrant larch trees changing color. The trees offer protection from rain if there is any drizzle in the forecast.

Winter

While most locations give off the typical grey frosty vibes during the colder months, Hoyt Arboretum is green throughout the winter. The Redwood Deck offers a peacuful setting with large ferns and beautiful evergreens.
